A Flower-Filled Wedding in Mexico City: The Bride’s Mother-Designed Dress

“When I first laid eyes on the lace, the Watters team and I wasted no time diving into the design process,” Sydney recalls. She humorously mentions trying on more wedding gowns than anyone else globally during the design phase, ensuring that every dream element was incorporated into her look. With a clear vision as the bride, she was determined to bring her long-held fantasies to life.

The envisioned elements encompassed a timeless high neckline, intricate custom beading meticulously crafted by skilled artisans in India, an array of lace-covered buttons, a striking power shoulder, sleeves grazing the knuckles for a hint of nonchalance, and a personalized Spanish net veil tailored by her close friend and renowned veil designer, Toni Federici. Sydney expresses her affection for the allure of net fabric over traditional tulle.

For accessories, the team at Of Rare Origin curated a selection including the bride’s earrings, bridesmaids’ earrings, the mother of the bride’s statement ring, the officiant’s earrings, the groom’s boutonniere and cufflinks, and the father of the bride’s boutonniere. All pieces hailed from the Aviary collection, symbolizing the bride’s family moniker as the “three little birds.” To incorporate a touch of green in lieu of the traditional blue, Sydney opted for vibrant Amina Muaddi heels and concluded her ensemble with an Olympia Le-Tan spicy margarita book clutch.

Sydney and Nick exchanged vows on January 20, 2024, in Mexico City at General Prim, an opulent mansion nestled in the heart of the city’s Colonia Juárez district. Drawing from her extensive experience in the wedding industry, Sydney meticulously selected vendors who could bring her vision to fruition. The picturesque location was recommended by her longtime friends and travel connoisseurs, Renee and Pamela Strauss of Wedaways, who instantly fell in love with Mexico City during their initial visit.

The couple enlisted the services of Julian Leaver Events, a reputable team from Dallas, to orchestrate the wedding weekend, commencing with a rehearsal dinner and welcome soiree at Casino Español. Pina Cate, based in Cabo, spearheaded the floral and design aspects alongside decor maestro Vicente Paniagua Coeto. Leading up to the grand event, Sydney and Nick made multiple trips to Mexico City to assist with the preparations. Upon witnessing the venue’s breathtaking transformation during the wedding weekend, Sydney was overwhelmed with emotion. “The vibrant flowers and exquisite rentals truly brought the space to life,” she reflects, encapsulating the surreal ambiance of the moment.
