Presidents Day Holiday Operating Hours and Programs Revealed by Montgomery Parks

Montgomery Parks has released details regarding its operating hours and programs for the upcoming Presidents Day holiday.

Open Parkways Schedule

During the Presidents Day holiday, the Open Parkways schedule will be in effect. This means that parkways will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists while being closed to motor vehicles.

  • Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles)
    Saturday, February 17, starting at 7 a.m. until Monday, February 19, until 4 p.m.
  • Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road, and from Forest Glen Road to University Boulevard West
    Friday, February 16, from 9 a.m. until Monday, February 19, until 4 p.m.

Please note: The gate closures are scheduled to be completed by the specified times mentioned above. The reopening of the parkways will commence at the indicated times; however, this process may take up to 30 minutes to finalize.

Fun Activities Available During the Presidents Day Weekend

Various fun activities will be available throughout the Presidents Day holiday weekend:

  • Parks, trails, gardens, nature centers, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, outdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts* will be open daily from sunrise to sunset. (*Certain outdoor courts are available for rental.)
  • The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and the street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park may be permitted or are available on a first-come, first-served basis if not reserved.
  • Campfire rings can be rented at multiple locations.
  • Ice skating at Cabin John Ice Rink or Wheaton Ice Arena
  • Little Bennett Campground
  • Brookside Gardens grounds will be open daily from sunrise to sunset, with the Visitor Center operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Conservatory from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Please note that the Visitor Center and Conservatory will be closed on Presidents Day, February 19)
  • Josiah Henson Museum and Park will have special hours on Presidents Day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Presidents Day Holiday Operating Hours

On Monday, February 19, 2024, the following facilities will be CLOSED:

  • Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits Offices
  • Montgomery Parks Public Information and Customer Service Office
  • Brookside Gardens Visitor Center and Conservatory
  • All Montgomery Parks Nature Centers (Grounds and trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset)
