‘Good Timing’: Brooke Henderson Was Oddly Happy With R3 Suspension, Hilarious Truth Reveals Why

One of the most interesting subplots of the 2024 season is golf vs. the weather! The first round of the Masters was delayed by two and a half hours and later suspended due to the torrid weather conditions. Surprisingly, the first women’s major of 2024 faced similar issues on the third day of the event, as it experienced a delay of two and a half hours and was finally suspended at 5:30 pm due to the unforgiving weather.

Many players could not complete their rounds on Saturday, one of them being Brook Henderson, who started a third round in an amazing fashion and claimed the leaderboard swiftly, However, she was left hanging on her final hole. Although the delay should have caused severe frustration for Henderson, interrupting her game, surprisingly enough, she turned out to be in a rather jubilant mood.

The third-round suspension did not bother Brooke Henderson

After carding 7 beautiful birdies and an eagle at the eighth hole, including five straight holes under par from Nos. 7–11, it must have taken a lot of energy out of Brookes Henderson. So when she was asked about how she felt about the delay, and what she did for the two hours that she had been there, Henderson came up with a rather jolly reply, “I was really hungry when we stopped, so it was kind of good timing.”

Since the decision regarding the continuation of the round was yet to be declared, Henderson elaborated how, apart from grabbing lunch, she tried to keep her focus on the game for her present and the upcoming round, “Then I just hung out in the locker room, tried to stay present in case we had to go back out and tried to rest as much as I could because it’s going to be an early morning and a long day tomorrow”

Henderson’s impressive gameplay helped her climb 19 positions from the second round, as she currently sits at T2 on the leaderboard. It appears that she herself enjoyed the performance she put forth on Saturday and stated, “Today was nice, I feel relaxed and watched a bunch of shows, so I’m happy.” Nonetheless, she also rested herself, preparing her for the long day ahead of the finale. The third round of the women’s major is scheduled to resume on Sunday at 7:00 am, with the final round to commence just before 9:30 am.

With predictions of heavy rain all night long, the verdict could change at any moment, and there is still no certainty of what the third round has in store for the players. Well, she was not the only one who waited upon the final call for the round to conclude, rather most of the players leading in the Top 5 were affected by the same fate.

The leaderboard of the Chevron Championship after the third-round suspension

Atthaya Thitikul was leading after the third round suspension and got only through eleven holes, carding three birdies, and, amazingly, no bogeys at all. Nelly Korda, who is vying for the fifth consecutive victory this season, was 3-under 41 through 11 holes, one stroke away from the lead. Fourth on the leaderboard was Jin Hee Im, who, despite carding 2 bogeys on the 9th and 10th hole, made her way to the Top 5 after carding 3 birdies. However, her game stopped right after her last one on the 11th hole.

Lauren Coughlin, who was initially leading after the first round, dropped down to the fifth position, and her game was stopped after she made a par on the 13th hole. Nonetheless, her game still was on point, as she carded a total of 5 birdies in her 13-hole round! It was the two bogeys on the 2nd and eighth hole that brought in misery for her, of course, along with the delay of the round! Tying with her was Hae Ran Ryu, waiting to give her best to grab the win!

Well, there can be no predictions of the win, as long as there is no update on the weather. All the players are eagerly waiting for the final verdict so that they can continue their game and barge into the finale! What do you think will be the fate of the third round?
