“Even they couldn’t quite explain it”: Michael Keaton’s Hilarious Revelation About His Morbius Cameo Proves He Was As Clueless As the Fans

Michael Keaton is not new to starring in comic book films. From Batman to Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor has won over fans with his portrayal of iconic characters over the years. He is very versatile too, and hence can play both a hero and a villain very convincingly.

Keaton is one of the most sought-after stars too, and he has made several interesting cameos throughout his career. However, his appearance in Morbius left fans scratching their heads. Funnily enough, Keaton was as clueless about his role in the film as the fans.

Michael Keaton reveals he was clueless about his Morbius cameo

Michael Keaton is one of Hollywood’s most desirable actors, with a wealth of talent to his name. He made his MCU debut in Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he played Vulture, one of the best villains seen on screen.

He was very impressive as Adrian Toomes, one of the webbed superhero’s most feared antagonists. However, the Vulture also showed up for a cameo in the post-credits scene of Morbius, starring Jared Leto. This confused many, including the actor himself, and he had a hard time trying to figure out the Spiderverse films.

Keaton appeared for an interview on Joshua Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast in March of this year. The actor spoke about a number of subjects, including the surprising cameo in the film. He also divulged that he was not sure why he agreed to do it because even the creators were unable to explain their vision very well.

“No, no idea. None. Zero. I mean, they said ‘Okay’… and even they couldn’t quite explain it. They said, ‘Look, let me just kind of tell you,’ and I go, ‘I really don’t quite know what you’re talking about or even who some of these people are,’ and he said, ‘Okay, let me explain,’ but it was complicated because, obviously, they were looking down the road…” said the actor.

Keaton acknowledged that the creators had something in mind for his character in the future when they roped him in. However, it ended up creating continuity errors.

How Michael Keaton’s Vulture caused a plot hole

Keaton’s cameo in the film proved to be more baffling than it was fruitful. It caused confusion because fans are aware that the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man exist in parallel universes.

Leto’s film never really delved into how, or why the MCU villain ended up in a different universe. However, Venom also had a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, possibly alluding to the fact that it might just fall under the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film used Vulture to lay the foundations for a potential Sinister Six project from Sony. The studio has been trying to get this project underway for years now. Unfortunately, the plans might have fallen through after the film bombed at the box office.

Keaton’s Vulture may have seemingly been transported from the MCU to Sony, but the character’s fate is currently up in the air. Morbius can be streamed on Netflix and Prime Video.
