It’s safe to say that Geraldine Viswanathan is truly embodying our most extravagant aspirations (heh). During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress shared the anecdote of encountering Taylor Swift at Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s wedding (where Geraldine and Margaret co-star in the movie Drive Away Dolls) and departing with a memorable keepsake: the musician’s handbag.
Geraldine provided the talk show host with a detailed account of the situation after he presented a photo of her proudly displaying a handbag while standing beside Tay.
“Why are you presenting a bag like you’re on QVC?” Meyers inquired of the actress.
“Coincidentally, that’s a good question,” she responded with a chuckle. “I was spending time with Margaret and Jack in the studio when Taylor was about to leave, and Jack introduced me, saying, ‘Taylor, have you met Geraldine? She’s in the movie with Margaret.’”
The actress then showered praise on the singer, describing her as “incredibly kind” and expressing excitement about watching their upcoming film. In that moment, Geraldine marveled at Taylor’s handbag, eliciting an enthusiastic response. “She said, ‘Thanks. Do you want it?’ and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’”
“And then she proceeded to transfer her belongings from the bag to her pockets and said, ‘I received this for free, so you can have it.’ So, I accepted her bag!” she recounted before concluding with, “I took her bag[…]and I have evidence!” No further commentary, just 🤯.
Jack (also known as the ultimate matchmaker in Geraldine’s narrative) and Tay have shared a longstanding friendship and collaboration, marked by numerous heartfelt moments together over the years. Most recently, the producer publicly lauded the “Anti-Hero” songstress after clinching the Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical.
“Sometimes you need someone to pave the way for you, and different individuals have fulfilled that role for me at various stages of my life. My parents when they said, ‘Yes, pursue music, we won’t stand in your way,’ all the early bands I was part of…” Jack began in his touching speech.
“Taylor Swift truly opened that door for me, because when many were suggesting ‘sounds great, but let’s bring in a professional producer’…And everyone here, especially, understands that sentiment [when there’s a demand for] a renowned figure,” he continued. “We crafted a track called ‘Out Of The Woods’ for 1989 and while I anticipated the directive to engage a big-name producer, she said, ‘Let’s handle the mixing.’ So, I deeply appreciate you, Taylor.”
