In ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ directed by Imtiaz Ali, we learn the untold true story of the original rockstar from Punjab, who rose from humble beginnings to become a 1980s music sensation before tragically passing away at the young age of 27 as a result of the mixed reactions his music elicited.
Diljit portrays ‘Chamkila,’ the iconic artist of his time who skyrocketed to fame from humble beginnings through his impactful music. Parineeti takes on the role of Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife, Amarjot Kaur.
The film’s trailer, recently unveiled by the makers, portrays a young man (Diljit Dosanjh) hailing from a village in Punjab who reluctantly agrees to perform at a local event despite his aversion to being labeled as Chamkila. To his surprise, his music captivates the village audience, especially the women, while drawing criticism for its provocative lyrics.
He eventually teams up with singer Amarjot Kaur.
‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is set to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
